Thoughts from the weekend

Leicester City crowned Champions

It was a fitting finale to Leicester City’s season on Saturday. This remarkable football story was brought to a crescendo as captain Wes Morgan lifted the Premier League trophy in front of a raucous and utterly adoring stadium and whole city. The match itself, which could of ending up being inconsequential, proved to be another great win for the Foxes. They won 3-1, Vardy scored two and they were serenaded by none other than Andrea Bocelli. Not a bad way to celebrate winning the Premier League. Whatever happens next season this is the most emphatic football story since Brian Clough worked wonders at Nottingham Forest and it doesn’t stop there for Claudio Ranieri’s men...they have Champions League football to look forward to next season.

Big Sam

Sunderland almost done it...again!

Who can bet against Sam Allardyce? He is THE man when it comes to keeping your team in the league. Early on in the season it seemed as though Sunderland were already resigned to the Championship. Terrible performances had created unease between players and fans and the writing seemed on the wall. Queue Allardyce and survival will now be guaranteed if they beat Everton at home in midweek.

Welcome Burnley and ‘Boro

While Leicester City were taking all the plaudits worldwide for their achievements, Burnley and Middlesborough were promoted to the Premier League. Congratulations to them and it is pleasing to see some more northern teams back in the Premier League again.
