The Business End of the Season

Thoughts from the weekend

The Business End of the Season

Spring has arrived, the sun is shining and the Premier League is roaring into action. Those chasing the title grind out performances. Teams fighting for survival score last minute winners. It is when the Premier League really hots up. This weekend did not disappoint. Leicester won to stay top. Relegation threatened Norwich won to move 4 points clear of the relegation zone and mid table West Brom drew. This must be the business end of the season.

The Title Chase

On the evidence of the weekend it looks more and more likely that the dogged Leicester City will be crowned Champions of England. A 1-0 win against Southampton meant they moved 7 points clear of Tottenham who could only draw at Liverpool. Arsenal got back to winning ways with an expansive 4-0 defeat of Watford and Man City did the same against a tired Bournemouth. There are now only 6 games to play (7 for some) until titles will be decided and league positions finalised.

The Survival Fight

Norwich City v Newcastle

It was an incredible game at Carrow Road on Saturday as Norwich city scored a stoppage time winner to condemn Newcastle to defeat. Rafa Benitez has now picked up only 1 point from his 3 games in charge and they are now 6 points adrift of Norwich. Crystal palace picked up a crucial point away to West Ham. Alan Pardew’s men find themselves in a relation dogfight now and face Norwich next weekend. Sunderland got a frustrating draw at home to West Brom in a match they felt they should have won. The fight for survival continues.
